A $130 million MGallery by Sofitel hotel is being constructed at Melbourne’s sprawling Chadstone super-size shopping centre to cater for the expanding office and tourism trade in the area.
With its, almost, own eco-system, Chadstone shopping centre, has undergone a massive make-over and upgrade and is expanding with more office space, of which the Sofitel MGallery will help to provide the accommodation.
Designed by Melbourne-based architects, Bates Smart, it will be the first hotel to target a 5 Star Green Star rating using the new generation Green Star – Design/As Built v1.1 rating tool.
The 12 level hotel will feature health and wellness facilities, including a day spa, gymnasium and rooftop infinity swimming pool, plus two restaurants, lounge bar, and a ballroom capable of hosting functions for up to 400 people.
With such a variety of first class experience areas, conditioning these with an energy efficient solution led the contractor to partner with Armcor to provide the solution.
The fresh air requirements of the pre-function and function rooms, the ballroom and the swimming pool area were solved using 8 individual units with capacities up to 8000 l/sec. All equipment included energy recovery, economy cycle systems, reverse cycle operation and controls compatible to the BMS.
