North Gungahlin Primary School

Location: Taylor, ACT
Contractor: Climatech NSW

Construction has begun on the new North Gungahlin primary school in Taylor with the first students to start school there at the beginning of the 2019 school year.
The new school is projected to cost $32.069 million, with funding allocated from the 2015-16 and 2017-18 ACT Budgets.
It will cater to students from preschool to Year 6 from Taylor, Moncrieff and Jacka – the first suburbs being developed as part of the North Gungahlin development.
This new modern school facility will cater for 88 preschool and 600 primary school students when it opens for Term 1 2019, providing capacity for quality public education in this high-growth region,” Ms Berry said.
The planning will also allow for the accommodation of an additional 44 preschool students and 150 primary school students through expansion if required to cater for future growth.”
The new school will also include a resource centre, canteen, out-of-hours school care facilities, and great outdoor learning and play areas.
Importantly, the school will also have specific facilities for music, and curriculum enrichment programs such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics to ensure we are equipping our students for the best possible future.”

The Client’s Challenge
Education facilities and classrooms require airconditioning and fresh air.
Using Temperzone split airconditioning units, the standard fan coils do not have provision for any heat recovery from the exhaust air.
To enable efficient operational costs the addition of ERV is essential.

The solutions provided to meet the challenge. Why was this product selected?
Armcor was able to provide an ERV slim line fan coil that could be installed in a ceiling space that would provide heat recovery whilst still being compatible with the Temperzone condensing unit.
5 units, with the required right and left handing were supplied to satisfy the requirements.

The positive results/savings/predicted savings to emanate from the solution
The positive results come from eliminating the need to install 2 separate pieces of equipment – both the heat recovery and the DX cooling coil are housed in one unit along with the supply fan.
This saves valuable and expensive installation labour time.
