NEXTDC Merlot 3 Data Centre

Location: West Footscray, VIC
Contractor: D & E Air Conditioning Pty Ltd (VIC)

Data centres are fundamental infrastructure in today’s digital environment. Located in West Footscray, approximately 10km west of Melbourne’s CBD, M3 is prominently located close to a major electricity substation as well as telecommunications, utilities, and public infrastructure. The full M3 site spans a 100,000sqm and will be developed into a 150MW technology campus.

While the third Melbourne data centre, M3, is under construction it will form a major technology campus in West Footscray. M3 will shape a critical operations hub for customers, enabling them to house their mission-critical operation centres, administrative offices, and collaboration spaces within the hyperscale hub. M3 will be a completely fault-tolerant facility, built and certified to NEXTDC’s premium Uptime Tier IV resilience standards and will champion the energy efficiency and sustainability best practices NEXTDC is known for.

The Victorian contractor collaborated with Armcor Air Solutions for manufacturing and supplying the air handling units as per the project schedule and mechanical specifications.

Armcor’s DHP series are suited particularly well for the data centres which have very specific climate control requirements and the need of providing an economical and practical solution for humidity control.

This is where the Armcor range of dehumidification equipment shines. This solution is achieved through a 3-stage process where the air is cooled and dehumidified through the sensible heat exchanger; further cooled and dehumidified through the cooling coil; then passing back through the opposite airflow path of the sensible heat exchange media to be reheated to the required supply air setpoint temperature.

With a capacity of 1575 l/sec and a cooling capacity of 55kw and standard inclusions of EC Plug fans, sensible heat exchange media and associated controls, 4 units were assembled and delivered to the M3 Data centre. Armcor Air Solutions have been proud to be a part of Melbourne’s major technology hub for enterprise and government.

As the data centre comes close to the finish line, here is a quick snapshot of the project. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/nextdc_m3-melbourne-update-activity-6973100169642876928-B-Zi?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
